Summer is winding down and your new school year is approaching. Now is the perfect time to refresh your look with a fresh new hairstyle! I found this year, it’s all about embracing effortless chic and fun, versatile styles that can be easily adapted for both busy mornings and special occasions. Here’s my roundup of the hottest back-to-school hairstyles for 2024, complete with step-by-step guides and the must have products to help you achieve them!

The Modern Butterfly Clip

I love accessories! They are such a simple way to enhance your style. The butterfly clip is back and better than ever! I found a variety of designs of this retro accessory ranging in sizes, colors and patterns. Add these fun clips for a soft half-up style or to show off a creative updo. So many options to add a touch of elegance to your everyday look!

How to Achieve a Half-up Style with Butterfly Clips:

Prep Your Hair: Start with clean, dry or towel-dried hair. Always use a good leave-in conditioner and heat protectant prior to styling. Add a bit of texturizing spray or lightweight mouse for extra volume.

Section Your Hair: Divide your hair into two sections. It's easier to style hair by isolating each section. Clip the top section out of the way.

Create Shape: Use a curling iron or wand to add loose waves to the bottom section. Work from side to side using 1" - 2" sections alternating the direction of curl. For a fuller look use smaller sections and tighter curl. For a softer look use larger sections and looser curl. Each curl will soften into more of wave depending on how much tension is used when curling and length of hair.

Clip It Up: Release the top section and gather it at the back. Secure it in the middle of back of head by twisting section and clipping ends in with a butterfly clip. Change it up by keeping the ends out and curling with the same pattern.

Finish: Lightly mist with a shine spray and finishing hairspray to keep everything in place. Add glitter for some extra sparkle!

The Favorite Ponytail

When I want a combination of sleek and sophisticated, my go- to is the classic ponytail. This style offers SO much versatility and can be a super quick fix for any school day or event.

How to Achieve:

Start Fresh: Brush or comb your hair to detangle and smooth. No need to shampoo prior to unless preferred.

Apply Product: Spritz hair to lightly dampen before using a smoothing serum or cream. For a sleek "wet" look, apply a medium-strong hold gel.

Gather and Secure: Pick the location and pull your hair into a ponytail. Use a hair tie that matches your hair color to hide or wrap a section of your hair arounf the hair tie. Add a colorful scrunchie for added fun!

Smooth Out and Polish: Use a comb to smooth any flyaways and finish with a shine spray and medium hold aerosal hairspray.

The Cosmic Space Buns

Watch out for this playful touch for your back-to-school look... Space Buns! These are simple to achieve and easy to customize for any hair type!

How to Achieve:

Divide Your Hair: Split your hair into two vertical sections and secure with a clip to isolate. Create a top and bottom section if you are designing a half-up style.

Create Buns: Gather the top section that is divided it into two and create your part. Twist, braid or knot each section into a small bun and secure with hair ties or bobby pins at the base. Duplicate on opposite side.

Add Texture: For a softer tousled look, gently tug at the buns to loosen them slightly and pull out a few ends.

Finish: Use a light hold hairspray to keep the buns in place. Mist a shine spray to smooth any flyaways.

The Beautified Braided Headband

Braids are truly timeless. I continously see variations of braid in most trending styles. The braided headband is a chic way to keep your hair out of your face while looking super stylish. Add accessories to really show off your uniqueness!

How to Achieve:

Prepare Your Hair: Begin your style with fresh, clean hair prepped with a styling cream or mouse. Enhance your natural texture or add loose barrel wrapped curls and waves.

Create a Braid: Take a small section of hair from one side of your head and braid it, securing the end with a small elastic. Create this look by using various types of braids such as fish tail or a twist rope braid.

Place the Braid: Drape the braid across your forehead, front hairline, mimicking a headband. Wrap the braid around head and tuck the end behind your ears ,securing it with bobby pins. Pull bits of hair to soften the edge or leave tiny ends out.

Secure: Use bobby pins or a pretty hair clip to secure the braid in place, adjusting as needed.

What fun! These trending back-to-school hairstyles are all about combining style with convenience. Making sure you look great while keeping up with your busy schedule. Experiment and try them ALL out. Start the school year with a fresh, fab look!
